The Long Trail Brewing Company began its mission to brew high quality craft beer in November 1989. A humble beginning in the basement of the old Bridgewater Woolen Mill along the Ottauquechee River in the Green Mountains of Vermont was soon outgrown so the brewery packed up and “Hit the Trail” up the road to a riverside hay field where they now reside.
Long Trail takes the words “Environmentally Conscious” very seriously. Appreciation for our surroundings and an understanding of the resource limitations of our local environment have inspired our company to consider ways to minimize the environmental impact our brewery has on our area. All spent grain and spent hops are fed to local dairy cattle as a valuable food supplement, steam from the brewing process is condensed into hot water and the thermal energy is used to heat water for the next brewing cycle saving up to 2,000 gallons of propane a month. By combining the very best ingredients available – like pure Vermont drinking water – and environmentally minded brewing processes with a genuine passion for brewing high quality craft beer, Long Trail proudly produces an extraordinary Family of Fine Ales.
Long Trail Ale
ABV: 4.6% Category: Craft / Specialty Food Pairing: German dishes, smoked or grilled meats. Sandwiches, hearty soups and pizza. Brewery: Long Trail Brewery Seasonal Availability: Year Round Beverage Type: German Altbier
Long Trail Ale is a full-bodied amber ale modeled after the “Alt-Biers” of Dusseldorf, Germany. Long Trail’s top fermenting yeast and cold finishing temperature results in a complex, yet clean, full flavor. Originally introduced in November of 1989, Long Trail Ale quickly became, and remains, the largest selling craft-brew in Bermont. It is a multiple medal winner at the Great American Beer Festival.
Our Berliner Weisse is a tart, fruity, highly effervescent and refreshing ale that is relatively low in alcohol. At only 3.4% ABV, this highly-sessionable brew has a light body and a very dry finish.
A regional specialty of Berlin, it was referred to by Napoleon’s troops in 1809 as the “Champagne of the north,” due to its lively and elegant character. Described by some as the most purely refreshing beer in the world, only two traditional German breweries still produce this style.

Back for the 2015/2016 cold weather season, this dark chocolate porter is a very rich, roasty beer with top notes of chocolate derived from freshly roasted cacao.
Strong, but relatively smooth on the palate, a malty sweetness is balanced with bitterness and a slight dryness from the alcoholic strength. Look for notes of coffee, liquorice, mild chocolate and more subtle hints of fruit and spices.
Long Trail Double Bag Ale

Double Bag was originally offered only in Long Trail’s brewery taproom as a special treat to their visitors. With an alcohol content of 7.2%, please indulge in moderation. The Long Trail Brewing Company is very proud to have Double Bag named Malt Advocate’s “Beer of the Year” in 2001. Malt Advocate is a national magazine devoted to “expanding the boundaries of fine drinks”. Their Panel of judges like to keep things simple, and therefore of thousands of elgible competitors they award only two catagories;”Imported” and “Domestic”. It is a great honor to receive this recognition.

The latest in our Brush & Barrel Series, we’ve teamed up with Vermont artist Tom Cullins whose bold, beautiful work adorns the bottle label. Cullins’ dynamic use of color and space provides a warming visual that echoes the structured chaos of the malts and hops that create this dynamic brew.
Long Trail IPA
ABV: 5.9% Category: Craft / Specialty Food Pairing: The additional hops complement spicy and full flavored dishes Seasonal Availability: Year Round Beverage Type: English IPA
Real India Pale Ale (IPA), as it was first brewed in the days of the British Empire, was not the carefully filtered brew that we call IPA beer today. The first IPAs were unfiltered and featured extra hops and higher strength as a preservative for the long trip from England to the colony of India. Our Traditional IPA ale is naturally carbonated, dry-hopped & unfiltered like the old days.
Long Trail Limbo IPA
ABV: 7.6% Category: Craft / Specialty Seasonal Availability: Year Round
Limbo IPA is the first year-round Long Trail offering to be born out of our new Farmhouse Pilot Brewery. We had such great success with the IPAs coming out of our Pilot facility (in both our “Farmhouse Ales” – brewery only – and “Brown Bag” – regionally distributed, draught-only) that we decided to release Limbo IPA, in package and draught, year-round.
When we launched Brown Bag in 2012, a web page dedicated to customer feedback was put online. After experiencing the first IPA in the series, one customer’s email remarked, “You’d better not leave me sitting here in Limbo until you decide to brew some of your new IPA’s year-round.” And so became Limbo.
At 80 IBU’s, we knew this Australian & West Coast hopped IPA warranted packaging that was equally as bold, so we broke the Long Trail mold and went to some unchartered territory. The package graphics and tap handles are like nothing we have ever done before and are sure to turn some heads. Limbo six packs will have a special die-cut design to showcase the artwork. The bottle will feature unique crowns with artwork on both sides. This style of IPA is something we have heard our customers screaming for and our Brewers have hit this recipe out of the park.
A mostly cloudy body is capped with a light, fluffy head that reveals soft notes of citrus and spices. Whether you prefer partly sunny or mostly cloudy, this brew will happily keep your glass half full.
Mostly Cloudy is modeled after the original Belgian Witbiers brewed in monasteries during the 14th Century. We’ve refined the recipe of our Belgian White, given the packaging a new look and released it under the new name, Mostly Cloudy—although it pairs equally well with sunrays and cloudy days.

Artfully brewed with all natural pumpkins, Pumpkin Ale features a slightly sweet finish from additions of cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger that deliver a well-balanced brew reminiscent of grandma’s pumpkin pie.
The perfect drink for the fall season, pumpkin beers date back to colonial America when malted barley was sparse and pumpkins grew in abundance. We continue the tradition with this seasonal treat that’s ripe for the pickin’.
A hoppy brown ale built for winter’s deepest days, “Sick Day” is knee-deep in piney, spicy hop flavors and nicely balanced by a warming, toasty malt presence that’ll warm your soul after a day in the snow.
Grab your gear and call out, because some days are too good to miss.
An unfiltered golden ale made to chill out summer’s hottest days. Remarkably light on the palate, with a soft Pilsner malt character and a distinct citrus hop aroma deriving from dry-hopped additions of Citra hops. Each sip finishes with a refreshing bitterness that invites another. At 4.3% ABV, this golden beauty is a truly quaffable drinking experience.
Long Trail Trible Bag
ABV: 9.2% Category: Craft / Specialty Food Pairing: German foods including smoked meats, pork, sausage and grilled meats Seasonal Availability: Limited Beverage Type: Strong Ale
Triple Bag is brewed in a small batch from single infusion that uses only the first runnings of the mash. The result is a brew made from only the purest part of the grains, providing a uniquely rich and dense flavor, with an aroma reminiscent of the finest dessert wines.
