In 2008, our founders Luke Bowen and Trevor Hayward met in an accounting class at Villanova University. Realizing that their job prospects were grim due to the recession, they decided to follow their passion and start their own brewery.
Their journey took them first to South Bend, Indiana, then to Cooperstown, New York, and finally to Hartford, Connecticut. This exhaustive search landed them a partner who cared as much about craft beer as Luke and Trevor. Today the amazing team at Thomas Hooker Brewing Company works with our founders to craft the highest quality beers possible.
The next step for Evil Genius is to build their own brewery. Right now, Luke and Trevor are searching for locations around Philadelphia. As Evil Genius turns 4 in September, we have you, our customers to thank for helping make this dream a reality
Evil Genius Blind Eye PA
Evil Genius Chickity China The Chinese Chicken Fresh Hop IPA
Traditionally, American IPA means an extremely bitter and aggressive amber-hued beer, but ours is a totally different animal. We’ve scaled back on the caramel malts and bittering hops, choosing rather to go absolutely crazy with the aromatic hop additions. The result is a juicy and resinous India Pale Ale with notes of grapefruit, mandarin orange, clean toasty malt and honeydew melon. This isn’t your dad’s boring old bitter IPA; this is the American new school of hoppy beers.
I Love Lamp is our classic German-style hefeweizen with an Evil Genius twist. We brew this beer with 2-Row, Wheat, and Munich malts, and hop it gently in the kettle with German hops. Once fermentation has completed we add just the right amount of pineapple, making it a truly unique beer that is at once intriguing and drinkable. The banana and clove notes naturally produced by our hefeweizen yeast are balanced out by refreshing pineapple, resulting in a delicious, easy-drinking treat. Tell the summer heat “EFF OFF!” with some I Love Lamp!

You’ve never had a wheat beer like this one before!
Purple Monkey Dishwasher is our robust porter made with Chocolate and Peanut Butter. We start with a world-class American-style porter recipe, which is already laden with notes of chocolate, sweet malts, caramel, and molasses, and then take it to the NEXT LEVEL by infusing it with natural chocolate and peanut butter! The final product is like a candy bar in a bottle that is deceptively quaffable despite it’s strength. Just take one sip and you’ll understand why this is our signature, year round porter.
Evil Genius Santa! I know him! Festive Saison
Evil Genius Shut Up Meg
ABV: 6% Category: Craft Seasonal Availability: April Beverage Type: IPA
Shut Up Meg is our dry-hopped Farmhouse IPA. This Belgian-style ale is brewed with rye and a touch of winter wheat, hopped with Citra, Amarillo & Simcoe hops, and fermented with Belgian Saison yeast. The aroma is dank, juicy American hops and spicy rye. The palate follows suit, with notes of peach, white grape, Asian pear, black pepper, and an almost savory herbaceous quality. The finish is bone dry with impressions of fresh parsley, coconut and cedar.
Stacy’s Mom is our American IPA dry-hopped exclusively with Citra hops. Soft on the palate with extremely low bitterness, this is a great example of a new-school American IPA. Citra hops provide an explosive aroma of tropical fruits, lemon peel, peach and mango, complimented by a clean and slightly toasty malt base. Think you don’t like IPAs? Give Stacy’s Mom a try! She has got it going on, and might change your mind.
Evil Genius O’Doyle Rules IPA
O’Doyle Rules is a dry-hopped “almost IPA.” Falling somewhere between a pale ale, session IPA, hoppy blonde ale and American wheat ale, this approachable and highly drinkable golden ale is sure to tantalize the taste buds of both lupulin addicts and the hop shy alike. The use of malted oats and wheat give the beer a distinct creaminess, adding to the overall drinkability. A blend of American hop varieties, including Simcoe and Amarillo, are carefully balanced to create an aromatic, juicy, refreshing experience. Think you don’t like hoppy beers?
