Straub Brewery is humbled and proud to be designated as an American Legacy Brewery™ because it celebrates over 142+ years of Fierce Independence in brewing! It signifies that Straub has produced quality American Lagers for more than five generations and represents the passion and dedication of a single family, who successfully managed, expanded and often protected a way of life that the Brewery represented. Ours is a history shared by only a few surviving legacy breweries in this country. Today, a new generation of Peter’s descendants carry-on his brewing traditions, maintaining the quality and relevance of our products and sustaining the heritage of Peter Straub.

Straub American Lager is a traditional pale lager brewed in the American-style using domestic malted barley and corn to produce a refreshing and extremely sessionable beer. We balance the malt sweetness with hops from the Pacific Northwest, and use traditional North American lager yeast to provide you a true classic lager.

Straub Light Lager

Straub American Light Lager is our lower calorie, lower alcohol pale lager that delivers a big classic beer flavor. Crisp and refreshing, it has a slightly bolder hop character than our American Lager. Straub Light is truly a unique offering by one of American’s only remaining American Legacy Breweries™ and is only 96 calories!

This all-malt brew is a pale-colored bock beer, known by several names including Helles Bock and Maibock. “Helles” is pale in German, and “Mai” is May, signifying this as a beer released for the spring. Our Maibock is brewed with a unique combination of German and American ingredients.

Traditional Bavarian-style Hefeweizen. Pours a substantial and lasting white foamy head. The color is a hazy golden yellow, typical of Hefe’s. The aroma is dominated by pleasant banana esters, produced by the classic Weihenstephan wheat ale yeast used to ferment this brew. The taste is refreshing and spicy, with some subtle clove notes.

Straub Oktoberfest pours a white foamy head, with a malty aroma and rich with notes of dried fruit. The taste is bready with mild hop bitterness on the finish. Overall, Straub Oktoberfest was brewed in the classic Oktoberfest & Marzen style. We used three German malts to provide the rich, bready malt character that fills the aroma and taste. The mild hop bitterness balances the sweetness and helps to create a balanced “festbier” for your enjoyment.

Straub Altbier is the perfect warmer against the winter cold. Copper in color with a pronounced malt flavor, brewed with imported German hops for a firm, bitter edge, and fermented with authentic German ale yeast, this brew will have you hoping for 6 more weeks of winter!

The German-Style Altbier is one of the few authentic ales brewed in the German tradition. Bavarian brewers invented lager beer in the 16th century. Before that, the old style of brewing utilized ale yeast. “Alt” is German for old, so the “Altbier” is a beer made “in the old German style.”

Our Vienna Lager is one of three new Specialty Styles offered in Straub’s 2015 Sampler cases. This all-malt, amber lager is our take on the classic style from Viennese and Munich brewing traditions. Our Vienna Lager is above all a balanced beer, with just enough flavor and aroma to please a wide range of drinkers. It pairs well with a range of spring and summer foods, like grilled chicken, sausage, burgers, and steaks.

Helles Lager

First created in Munich in 1894, the Helles style takes its name from the German word for “pale” which describes its straw-like color. This beer is subtle in flavor, with light malty notes balanced by spice and floral hop bitterness. Helles is the session beer of Bavarian beer gardens.

Pours a white foamy head. The color is pale, straw-like. The aroma has subtle and delicate malt notes and light spice and floral hop fragrance. The taste is crisp, refreshing and well-balanced, with a clean finish.

Our brand new Straub Dunkel is styled after the classic dark beers of Munich. “Dunkel” is German for dark, fitting with its amber-brown color, that sets it apart from the other famous beer of Munich – Helles, its pale counterpart. This beer is highly drinkable with slightly sweet, toasted bread flavors, balanced by mild, noble-hop bitterness. Flavorful, medium-bodied, and smooth, this beer pairs well with a wide range of foods from traditional German fairs like brats and kraut, to grilled meats, and flavorful cheeses.

1872 Lager

1872 Lager is a limited release pre-prohibition style lager beer. Peter Straub began brewing in St. Marys, PA in 1872 at a time when pale lagers had more color, more pronounced malt flavor, and were a touch hoppier than they are these days. We offer this beer as a tribute to our founder’s brewing legacy.

Pours a light tan, lingering head of small tight bubbles. First taste provides a crisp and refreshing hop bitterness followed by a malty sweetness with some light toasty notes. This beer has a mild spice and floral hop aroma with a brisk bitter finish. Overall impression provides a classic lager beer flavor and experience.

The worlds first Pilsner was brewed in Bohemia in 1842, the same year our town of Saint Marys was founded by Bavarian immigrants. We brewed this classic continental Pilsner to celebrate our rich heritage and lager brewing tradition.

Pours a creamy, lasting head of small bubbles . Aroma has a classic European spicy hop character, with a light touch of sulfur at the end. The taste begins with a mild bitterness, is followed by a malty middle, and is completed by clean, crisp finish.
